Founder, Martin Newman, M.D.

Martin Newman, M.D., is a behavioral healthcare expert with a passion for treating patients using a comprehensive, holistic approach. His elevated care model involves creating customized treatment plans for patients based on their own unique circumstances.

After practicing in the psychiatric field for nearly two decades, Dr. Newman recognized the need for a world-class behavioral health facility in the rapidly growing Phoenix area and embarked on the process of developing Destiny Springs Healthcare to help an underserved population with behavioral healthcare needs.  

The 90-bed Surprise facility was designed with Dr. Newman’s patient-focused care approach in mind, and incorporates recovery strategies that encompass the mind, body, diet, art and expression, all factors that play a role in the healing process.

Dr. Newman began his work focusing on the complex and challenging behavioral health field as Chief Medical Officer for Aurora Behavioral Health and working for prestigious healthcare organizations including University of Arizona College of Medicine.

Dr. Newman received his undergraduate degree in microbiology from Arizona State University and received his Medical Degree from Drexel University’s MCP Hahnemann School of Medicine, Philadelphia and trained in Psychiatry at Columbia University and St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospitals in New York City.





CEO, Burton Carriker

Burton Carriker, a proven behavioral healthcare executive, will lead Destiny Springs Healthcare as the Chief Executive Officer. Carriker stepped into this role in April 2018 during the planning and construction of the facility and will develop the 250-person team that will serve this population.

For more than 35 years Carriker has worked in the behavioral healthcare field, with more than 20 years in executive leadership roles. His passion and drive to make a difference for individuals and the community as a whole is what led him to Destiny Springs in Surprise, Ariz. Most recently, Carriker was CEO for Diamond Healthcare behavioral health facilities in both Dallas/Ft. Worth and in the greater Cleveland area.

Carriker received his undergraduate degree in psychology from William Jewell College and received his master’s degree from the University of Kansas in counseling and psychology.
